Caudal Injection

A Caudal injection is a minimally invasive procedure utilized to treat pain in the lower back or legs caused by a herniated disc, Sciatica or other back problems. A steroid medication is usually used for the injection.

  • A local anesthetic is used to numb the skin of the lower back, just above the buttocks
  • A needle is inserted into the skin and Fluoroscopy (Live X-Ray) is used to guide the needle into the caudal space near the spine
  • After the needle is confirmed to be in the proper place, the medication is slowly injected
