Esophagus Repair For Acid Reflux

This procedure is utilized to repair the esophagus after it has been damaged by stomach acid due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (acid reflux). The acid can cause painful sores and ulcers in the esophagus.

  • general anesthesia is typically used
  • surgeon will make several small incisions to the abdomen
  • a laparoscope (with a tiny camera) is inserted into the abdomen
  • the abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide gas to create working space for the surgeon
  • thin surgical instruments are inserted and utilized to wrap the upper curve of the stomach around the esophagus
