CESI

A Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection (CESI) is a minimally invasive procedure utilized to treat pain caused by pinched or inflamed nerves in the neck. A Cortisone steroid solution is usually used for the injection.

  • A local anesthetic is used to numb the skin on the back of the patient’s neck
  • A needle is inserted into the skin and Fluoroscopy (Live X-Ray) is used to guide the needle into the cervical epidural space near the spinal cord
  • After the needle is confirmed to be in the proper place, the medication is slowly injected
