Dr. Montgomery received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center in 1988 where he ranked in the top five percent of his class. He is the recipient of the Chancellor's Award from the LSU School of medicine for academic excellence and leadership. He did his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center from 1988-1993 in orthopedic surgery.
In 1991, he was awarded a limited A.O. European Trauma Fellowship in Graz, Austria and Interlaken, Switzerland. He was also awarded a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery and Sports Medicine at the Center for Hip and Knee Surgery in Mooresville, Indiana.
In 1992, Dr. Montgomery teamed with Dr. Felix "Buddy" Savoie and produced a monumental research project regarding orthopedic shoulder surgery. For their efforts, they were awarded with the distinguished Charles S. Neer II award from the American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He has authored several other articles published in peer reviewed journals. He returned to Lafayette in 1994 to begin his orthopedic practice. He and his wife, Deidre, have four children. Dr. Montgomery serves on several community and professional organization boards including Park Place Surgical Hospital Board, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Board, Miles Perret Cancer Services Board and Revenue Management Solutions Board. He is a graduate of Leadership Lafayette/Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and past Chairman of the Lafayette General Hospital Emergency Department.
He is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Southern Medical Society, Southern Orthopedic Association and other professional organizations.
